We Jammin'... I hope you like jammin' too!

Before we made it to Laramie, we stopped in Grand Junction, Colorado, to visit our old friend Carrie Barber.  She took us on a wonderful bike ride along the banks of the Colorado River, and then kicked our butts with a kettlebell work out.  Thanks for having us Carrie!

Laramie, or more specifically, Vedauwoo (pronounced Vee-dah-voo) is a crack climbing mecca.  We've been jamming to our hearts content-- which is whenever the Wyoming weather allowed it.  We saw snow a few times in the past weeks!

Cody onsighted (climbed the route first try, without any information beforehand) this route, called Beefeater, 5.10b.  A beautiful route- vertical, perfect to thin hand crack.  Fun to take pictures of!

Vedauwoo is most famous for the fat cracks that split many of the formations there.  It's a difficult, and not too pretty, kind of climbing, called offwidth climbing.  The crack is too big for hand or even fist jams, but too small to fit inside and climb like a chimney.  So, you're left with knees, elbows, and the heel-toe manuver.  Basically you grovel up the crack, one inch at a time.  No, really, it's fun!

This is me on a classic beginner offwidth crack called Handjacker, 5.7.  I'm not even to the hard part yet!

Cody on the classic boulder problem Cupcake, 5.10b.

A happy hubby at Vedauwoo!  That's the "Coke Bottle" Formation behind him.

Cody and Kelby racking up and discussing beta before climbing.

ps.. Anyone catch the Bob Marley reference?  We were doing lots of hand jammin'...  Anyone?

Can you believe it?

It's been a year!
photo by Garret Smith of Hammers Inc. Photography

What a year it's been!  We've traveled thousands of miles, by van, train, plane, bus, foot, boat, bicycle.  We've seen cathedrals in Spain,  the rugged California coastline,  breathed the salty muggy air of the Florida Keys,  tasted datales con beicon and sweet Sangria, and been fortunate enough to lay hand on the finest rock in the country.  All over the country.   Yosemite Valley,  Bishop, Hueco Tanks, Vedauwoo, Wild Iris, Sinks Canyon, The Needles, Joe's Valley, Little Cottonwood Canyon,  Pingora Peak, Squamish, Green River,  a city crag in Barcelona and in more than a few climbing gyms.

We've spent time with our parents and sibilings, had dinner with grandparents, celebrated Thanksgiving with an Aunt and Uncle, belayed friends and spotted strangers who became friends.   We watched the constellations circle slowly above us from the hot springs in Bishop, from the deck of Godspeed, and the campground at Wild Iris.

Life is good.  SO Good.

Thank you for being a part of it.
It wouldn't be the same without you.

We're truly living our dreams.  I hope you are too!

Happy May!

We were delayed in leaving SLC for an extra day because the forecast called for rain and snow in Joe's Valley.  We stayed, once again, at the lovely Mannion residence. (Thanks PJ and Sarah!  We love you guys!)  The weather cleared up the next day, and we were off.   It's so good to be back in the van again!
Snow?  What month is it again?

We couldn't just leave our houseplant!  It currently lives in the van with us, just in case we need some aloe vera for the tired skin on our fingers.

We had great weather in Joe's Valley- it was warm and sunny, a bit breezy.
Here I'm working on Sit-Down Comedian, a really fun V5.

Cody lookin' strong on Smokin' Joe (V9)!
He sent it after two short sessions.

We play Scrabble in the evenings.
I won the first game, but Cody came back in game 2.
Game three will be a fierce match-  I've got to wipe that smug smile off his face!

Hanging out by the riverside.  Joe's is a beautiful place!

River Crossings!

We're currently visiting my favorite sister-in-law in Montrose, Colorado.  We're heading up to Laramie in a few days for some granite crack climbing and the company of good friends.

We're livin' the dream!  Hope you all are too!
